SHARING KNOWLEDGE AND CELEBRATING THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF WOMEN IN ASSET MANAGEMENT
We are excited to welcome you to the inaugural Women in Asset Management Virtual Summit.
The last few months have without a doubt been a rollercoaster ride for everyone. Pre-COVID, the investment management industry was already navigating an increasingly competitive era, with margin pressures, technological disruption, and changing consumer preferences. These challenges are heightened further with pressure from global clients to be socially responsible – not only delivering on financial performance but also making a positive contribution to society.
There is still a lot to be done to make real progress by way of gender and racial makeup of the venture capital industry. A comprehensive data set of every VC organization and investor in the United States since 1990 shows that the industry has remained relatively uniform for years. Only 8% of investors are women. Racial minorities are also underrepresented – about 2% of VC investors are Hispanic, and fewer than 1% are black.
Asset managers are the most influential capital owners in the world, and if we do not do the right thing and change the way the industry has been working, then we will have a big problem. We have been given the opportunity to reflect and review corporate culture, and we must take this time to improve our services/offerings, support our people, and invest in diverse talent. The CFA Institute Diversity & Inclusion Report (2018) found that firms must focus on their “people model” as success in the future will be determined by their culture and ability to attract the best talent. How can firms solve the talent problem if people do not want to work for them or in finance altogether?
The virtual Women in Asset Management Summit will facilitate international knowledge sharing, collaboration, and networking that focuses on changing the staggering statistics and bettering the outcome for the industry. The agenda will provide actionable tips and recommendations on how to adapt to the new asset management landscape, how to stay relevant in the digital era, where to find talent, and how to better understand the future workforce.
We invite attendees from across the continent to listen and contribute – you can view the agenda and register your interesting attending via the buttons below. We look forward to seeing you in September!
The Women in Asset Management Awards:
Due to the on-going global health crisis, we have all faced unexpected changes and had to adapt to new normalities. As the upcoming months continue to remain uncertain and after much consultation with our event partners, we’ve taken the decision to postpone the Women in Asset Management Awards until 2021.
