AWARD CATEGORIES

Advocate of the Year

A woman that has gone out of her way to support the cause of getting more female representation in senior levels and breaking down barriers for women in the asset management industry. Submissions should include specific examples, backed up with targets achieved or hurdles overcome. 

Business Role Model of the Year

A woman in asset management who has been an effective role model to other men & women. Judges will examine demonstrations of leadership and business achievements, as well as examples of being a role model and inspiring other people to success in asset management.  

Bond Manager 

This category is open to a woman who is either a portfolio manager or plays an active role through research/analysis in US domestic bond markets; global and sovereign bond; or specialist fixed income (eg. credit US mortgage backed securities) 

Diversity Initiative of the Year

This award category is open to asset management & wealth management companies that have undertaken a specific initiative that has been established to promote diversity within their organisation or the wider industry. These could involve outreach programs, gender pay gap, paternal leave, gender parity in the industry, etc.  

Judges will assess commitment to the cause, awareness raised, impact on the organisation and/or industry, and ultimate results of the initiative. Submissions must include the name of the initiative. 

Emerging Market Equities

A woman who is either a portfolio manager or plays an active role through research/analysis in Emerging Market Equities. 

Employer of the Year

This award category is open to asset management & wealth management companies which have demonstrated a great desire to recruit and retain more women. Judges will look at efforts the employer has made to create a more diverse and inclusive working environment. Submissions should include examples of professional training and advancement, ways to boost morale and implemented programmes to increase well-being of employees.  

ESG Investment 

This award is open to those women who can demonstrate that their investment decisions have been consistently made in an ethical and responsible way, while achieving healthy returns for their clients. Things to include in the submission are their definition of ESG and how that impacts their fund selection. As ESG is an evolving process, submissions relating to the growing role of ESG within an organisation are also welcomed. 

Financial Skills Ambassador of the Year

This award category is open to women who have produced or helped in an outreach programme/campaign that encouraged and helped women and girls to improve their financial skills and consider a career in the finance industry. These could involve education, training, marketing and various other campaigns. Judges will assess commitment to the cause, awareness raised, impact and ultimate results of the initiative. Submissions must include the name of the initiative. 

Global Equities 

A woman who is either a portfolio manager or plays an active role through research/analysis in Global Equities. 

High Yield 

This category is open to a woman who is either a portfolio manager or plays an active role through research/analysis in US domestic high yield and or international high yield markets. 

Index 

A woman who has played a role within the sphere of index investing either at an index provider, an exchange or within a passive manager.  

Investment Consultant

A female independent or in-house institutional investment consultant that has broken down barriers to advancement in the company and/or wider financial sector, delivered for their clients as well as paving the way for diversity in leadership. The award is based on achievements made in the past 24 months.  

Municipal Bond Manager

This category is open to a woman who is either a portfolio manager or plays an active role through research/analysis in municipal bonds.  

Real Estate

A woman who has actively sought to promote gender diversity within the sector. Judges will be looking for additional examples of workplace success either in the form of investment returns and/or original pieces of research/analysis.  

Systematic 

A woman who has played a role within the sphere of systematic investing either at an asset manager, a rating agency/fund research company. 

US Large Cap Equities

A woman who is either a portfolio manager or plays an active role through research/analysis in US Large Cap Equities. 

US Small & Mid Cap US Equities 

A woman who is either a portfolio manager or plays an active role through research/analysis in US Small & Mid Cap Equities. 

US Value Equities 

A woman who is either a portfolio manager or plays an active role through research/analysis in US Value Equities. 

Woman of the Year 

A woman who has demonstrated the highest degree of excellence, innovation and leadership, and shone a light on the great things women in asset management can achieve. In their submission nominees should not only demonstrate outstanding business- and asset management-focussed achievements, but also give examples on how they have actively sought to bring more diversity to the asset management industry.  

Young Leader of the Year

A woman who began a career in asset management in the last five years and has shown great promise that she will go on to achieve great things in the industry. Judges will examine the last 18 months in each candidate’s career, looking at standout achievements and demonstrable contributions to successful projects.

FAQ

Who is eligible to be nominated for the Women in Asset Management New York?

You can nominate yourself or your colleagues/peers. Do include performance information that the judges can verify when needed. 
Nominees must be based in the United States of America. Nominees with a global role, who are based outside the USA, can only participate if their submission is about their work in either of these two regions.

How do I nominate?

You can nominate in as many categories as you deem appropriate. Please use the criteria (listed below) of the category you wish to enter to shape your written submission, as the judges will refer to each criteria to guide their decisions. You should submit an essay style submission which should be 400-600 words.  The more factual information and stats you can provide for any of these questions, the better your chances on being a finalist on the shortlist. The submission should cover achievements in the day-to-job as well as prove advocacy of gender diversity.

What is the involved cost?
There is no cost to enter for the awards. There is a cost if you wish to attend the awards dinner. This also applies to people who are shortlisted. As all nominees who wish to attend need to purchase a ticket. If you are shortlisted and for some reason cannot attend the the dinner, it will NOT affect your chances of winning the award you are shortlisted for.
Who judges the submissions?
An independent panel of judges will consider each nomination and vote on the winners for each category 2-4 weeks before the awards gala dinner.
